About the Department

The Department of Sociology, established on 06th July 1961, is one of the most vibrant departments of the University. The growth of the department has been spearheaded by stalwarts like Prof. T.K.N. Unnithan (Founder Head), Prof. Yogendra Singh, Prof. IndraDev, Prof. Ram Ahuja, Prof. SatyendraTripathi, Prof. InduMathur, Prof. N.K. Singhi and many more. The Department has been carrying on the legacy by organizing many academic activities on a regular level. Two memorial orations entitled 'Prof. N.K. Singhi Memorial Oration' and 'Prof. Ram Ahuja Memorial Oration'is held every year. Prof. Sanjeev Bhanawat, Editor, Communication Today & Former Head, Department of Sociology, University of Rajasthan, Jaipur delivered Prof. N.K. Singhi Memorial Oration on 06 September, 2022 on '????? ?????? ?? ??????? ??????' and Prof. Diwakar Singh Rajput, Department of Sociology & Social Work, Doctor Harisingh Gour Vishwavidyalya Sagar, M.P. delivered Prof. RamAhuja Memorial Oration on 30 September, 2022 on 'Prison Reforms: A Sociological Discourse". Ms. Annu Mahala. has been awarded for Prof. Ram Ahuja Memorial Gold Medal first rank (77.50%) at the University level degree examination in Master ofArts (Semester scheme) programme in subject of Sociology during the two yearstenure from2019-21. Besides the memorial oration, the department regularly organizes national Conferences/ Seminars on pertinent themes. The department has an Advance Seminar Club which organises special lectures/ interactive sessions/ workshops for the benefit of students and faculty members. University Grants Commission has upgraded Department of Sociology from the existing programme SAP DRS II to SAP DRS III programme for a period of 5 years ?Cities and Citizens: Initiatives, Realities and Prospects? and ?Governance and Globalization?. University has sanctioned Project XIV RUSA 2.0 programme to Department of Sociology titled 'Sustainable Livelihood Choices and Capacity Building among People Living with HIV in Rajasthan State. The two day's Department has organized National Conference on the theme 'Urban Development, Health and Vulnerable Sections of Society'on 17 & 18 March, 2023 under UGC SAP DRS III Programme in collaboration with Project XIV, RUSA2.0 programme.The Department also runs classes for generating consciousness about competitions and personality development, without any additional economic burden on the students. The Department publishes a Journal titled ?Studies in Sociology" (English with ISSN No.2349-0810).

Infrastructural Facilities

The Department has good infrastructure with Smart class room, seminar room, cabins for the faculty and sufficient office space. The department has its own library with more than 5000 books
